The more I dig into things, the more I am convinced that the Democratic Party is politically clueless. While looking at House election results, I found that Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin House members were predominately Republican going into the election. Amazingly, the Clinton team assumed those key states were solidly Democratic and not worth their attention.
It’s beginning to look like many Democrats have learned little from the election. President Obama blamed the loss to too many bars having Fox News. I guess he doesn’t like having a news outlet that doesn’t fawn all over him. His press secretary made a snotty remark about Trump saving the Carrier jobs. Other than the bailout of the auto companies, I can’t recall a single time Obama took direct action to save jobs. Things are just as bad on Capitol Hill. Democrats are in need of new ideas, new leaders and expanding beyond the relatively few states where they dominate. The top House leadership is Nancy Pelosi, 76, of San Francisco and Stenny Hoyer, 77, of the DC suburbs. In a move toward youth, Senate Democrats elected Chuck Schumer, 66, of New York to replace Harry Reid. Backing him up is 72 year old Dick Durbin of Illinois. The GOP made a huge mistake by being the Party of No. We will have to wait and see whether Democrats can come up with a clear and concise message. Right now the odds look pretty slim.
